English Language Teaching and Assessment Certificate (ELTAC)
English Language Teaching and
Assessment Certificate
The English Language Teaching and Assessment Certificate is designed for candidates who have limited experience in teaching the English language to adults.
The qualification is an intensive programme of study which enables candidates to gain a recognised teaching qualification, with a focus on those wishing to specialise in teaching English to speakers of other languages or those who wish to teach English to adults.
Candidates for the English Language Teaching and Assessment Certificate may include those who:
- Need to personally develop or extend their skills within a career in teaching.
- Have limited qualifications or experience in teaching English to adults.
- Wish to consolidate their understanding and/or gain a recognised qualification in teaching the English language.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Foreign students are required to have a high school qualification and demonstrate an appropriate level of English proficiency. An IELTS score of 6.5 / C1 level on the CEFR may be required.
- Applicants should have a good basic understanding of literacy, numeracy and ICT equivalent to Level 2, as well as access to at least 12 hours of teaching practice in English Language education.
- Prior teaching experience is not a prerequisite, as this is an initial teacher training qualification. An initial assessment may be conducted to determine an applicant's suitability for the programme.
Applicants should attain an advanced-level standard in the ESOL entry test for enrolment consideration.
If you do not fall into the above categories but are interested in the programme, you may submit your qualifications together with a letter explaining why you should be considered. You may be asked to complete a written English proficiency test and attend an interview. Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Open-book course assignments are submitted to LRN, UK, where they will be assessed and graded by two examiners.
On completion of the course, candidates will receive a Level 5 Graduate Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages endorsed by LRN.
